ConfiCare ACT II, the mature markets program of Adventist Midwest Health for adults 50 and older, offers exercise, social, and healthcare topics to the community. There are no dues. The activities are open to members and non-members; some activities have fees, but many are free. Members enjoy extended travel opportunities at a discount through outside vendors. “Birthstones” Marti Tracy  will provide surprising information about how many birthstones each individual has and the meaning of each of them.

Ms. Tracy has had a many-faceted career with more than 25 years as a Gemologist, a high school English teacher, owner of a catering business and eight years of service as a Village Board Trustee, four years as chairman of the Police and Fire Committee and four years as chairman of Economic Development – and she doesn’t look a day over 30!

Bridget R. Kane, Au.D., Doctor of Audiology, will tell us about the latest innovations in hearing devices, how to know when you need a hearing aid and the price range, depending on specific needs. Dr. Kane provides free hearing screenings by appointment on the 3^rd Tuesday of each month at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.

Continental Breakfast is available at 8:30 a.m. and the program begins at 9 a.m. No Charge.

Club Activities

Fitness Programs: Each ConfiCare ACT II participant works at his/her own level. If you’ve never exercised or are just returning, this is the place to start. Many new ACT II friendships have developed from these regimens and the camaraderie of the aerobic and Tai Chi exercise or the walking programs.

Fitness Fun: Strength-Cardio (Aerobics)-Stretch Combo for ConfiCare ACT II members, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 8 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. in the Dixon Education Center classroom of Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, 5101 S. Willow Springs Road, La Grange. A Saturday class meets at 8:30 a.m. Strength training shapes and defines while increasing muscle mass and bone density. Low impact Aerobics strengthens the heart and lungs while burning fat for weight loss. Stretching restores a healthy, positive mind/body balance.

Health & Fitness Walking Class, meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m. at the Western Springs Recreation Center, 1500 Walker Street in Western Springs for an hour  of walking and toning exercises, building cardiovascular fitness together with muscular strength and endurance to motivating music that gradually builds in tempo.  Walking was suspended for the holidays and will resume Monday, Jan. 9^th.

Tai Chi meets on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Woods, 1571 W. Ogden Ave., La Grange Park.

Wednesday, Jan. 4^th  – “The Help” – a story set in the South during Jim Crow days – How African American maids view their employers and empower a young white woman to write about them.

Feb. 1^st  – “The Conspirator”, an absorbing historical drama, directed by Robert Redford about Mary Sarratt, the first defendant tried after Lincoln’s assassination.

New Creative Writing Class – The new ACT II creative writing program has a communal structure with rotation of leadership for writing assignments based on fact, fiction or fractured fairy tales. Classes meet on the 1^st & 3^rd Mondays  from  11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Admitting/Cashier’s Conference Room of Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, 5101 S. Willow Springs Road, La Grange. Winter classes begin Monday, Jan. 16^th and continue Feb. 6^th & 20^th and Mar. 5^th & 19^th.  Free. Reservations requested by calling 630/856-7525.

Meet other ACT II members who are writing poems, telling their stories, or making them up for the first time. Tell your story in your own words. The focus is on having fun. New members are always welcome.

ConfiCare ACT II Snapshots meets on the 3^rd Tuesday of the month  at 3 p.m. in the La Grange Memorial Hospital Dixon Classroom for one hour.

The ConfiCare ACT II Book Look group meets in the Cashier’s Conference Room of Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, 5101 S. Willow Springs Road, La Grange.

The group will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19^th. The book selection for January is “Caleb’s Crossing” by Geraldine Brooks and Feb. 16^th “The Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. Reservations requested by calling 630/856-7525.  No charge.

ConfiCare ACT II escorted Day Trips are planned throughout the year and many extended air and motorcoach trips are also available with membership discounts through the ConfiCare ACT II office. ACT II will join the Western Springs Seniors Club Wed., Feb. 23^rd for a Day Trip to the Chicago History Museum.

2012 Day Trip plans include “Irish Chicago” with stops to Old St. Pat’s Church, Lunch at Fado Irish Pub, and tours of Holy Name Cathedral and the Irish American Heritage Center; Peach Picking with Lunch Tour and Harvest at Tree-Mendus Lemon Creek Winery; and a Big Band Themed Cruise on the Celebration Belle, the largest paddlewheel excursion boat on the Upper Mississippi,  Please note the deadline for reservations. If minimum reservations are not received prior to the deadline, day trips must be cancelled.

Extended Motor Coach Trips include Atlantic City & Amish Country, California Wine Country, Colorado’s Historic Trains, Dollywood & Smoky Mt.
