Lipinski Votes to Extend Middle-Class Payroll Tax Cut Print E-mail

Today, Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) voted to temporarily extend the payroll tax cut for the hard-hit middle class, preserve extended unemployment benefits for Americans struggling to find work, and prevent a Medicare cut that would threaten seniors’ access to their doctors. The extension of the payroll tax cut through the end of the year prevents a tax hike of $1,000 for the typical family. The legislation also requires that money from the general fund be deposited into the Social Security Trust Fund to make up for the lost payroll tax revenue and ensure that Social Security’s finances are not harmed and seniors will continue to receive their promised benefits.

Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) issued the following statement today on President Obama’s failure to provide an exception for religiously affiliated institutions to the new requirement that employers provide insurance coverage for birth control and abortion-inducing drugs. The rule is part of the 2010 health care law, which Rep. Lipinski voted against.

Today, Friday, February 3, Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) voted to pass the long-term Federal Aviation Administration re-authorization that he helped write to create jobs, save money, and reduce air traffic delays. The bill includes language authored by Rep. Lipinski to expedite the roll-out of the NextGen satellite navigation system, which will reduce delays by an estimated 35 percent, save $23 billion, and prevent pollution and noise, both locally and across the nation. It also includes legislation Rep. Lipinski wrote to develop alternative forms of fuel for aircraft to help reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and to promote recycling at airports, which are huge generators of waste.

Today, Friday, February 3, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted to approve Congressman Dan Lipinski’s amendment to the surface transportation re-authorization bill to prohibit spending federal transportation funding to put up signs advertising how projects were paid for.
