Stopped at the intersection of Lionel Road and Delaplaine, Salas was unable to produce identification or a valid driver’s license and was arrested and brought to the Riverside Police (RP) station for processing. During a fingerprint inquiry, an FBI notification was sent to RP stating that Juan Salas was actually Juan A. Salas-Salazar and that there was a No Bond Nationwide Arrest Warrant currently issued for him by Adams County Colorado for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Police report that when originally arrested (2008) by the Adams County Colorado Drug Task Force, Salas-Salazar was acting as a “mule” transporting a large quantity of drugs. Salas-Salazar had been able to elude authorities over the past three years by using several fictitious names and dates of birth. Chief Tom Weitzel stated, “This arrest is a prime example as to why law enforcement must wait for fingerprints to clear; not only from the Illinois database, but the FBI Nation Computer System known as NCIC (National Crime Information Center)”. He is currently being held in the Cook County jail awaiting an extradition hearing.
