Per Cicero Town Spokesman Ray Hanania, on Wednesday, February 1, Martinez got into a dispute with Leanos on the street in front of his 2931 S. 48th Court home, which initially ended when Martinez entered the residence. Leanos (pictured left) later returned to the home and shot Martinez through a front window. Both men are self-admitted gang members. Martinez was declared dead on the scene at 11:09 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Martinez, who was sentenced to three years in 2010 for aggravated battery of a police officer, received an early parole in November, 2011 from the Illinois Department of Corrections. Leanos is scheduled to be in bond court in Maywood on Monday, Hanania said. Town President Larry Dominick praised the fast work of the Cicero Police in apprehending a suspect in the murder. “We have a zero tolerance for street gang activity and will track them down when they commit crimes. We work hard to prevent these crimes but when they do occur we have a Police Department that is among the best in fighting street gang violence,” Dominick said. Hanania added that this homicide is the first serious gang-related incident in Cicero in 18 months.
