Seguin Services is reaching out to the older adult (55-years or older) community, who are interested in making a difference, to join a volunteer program mentoring some very enthusiastic people. The program, F.I.I.V.E Chicago (Fostering Intergenerational Inclusive Volunteer Engagement in Chicago), partners young people with disabilities with older mentors to engage in service to their communities together. Volunteers are asked to attend training in February or March and commit to volunteering 6 hours per month for a period of 9 months. The volunteers will mentor the young adults as they volunteer together at area soup kitchens, animal shelters, for environmental causes, with foster children, in nursing homes or hospitals, with homebound older adults and more. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Casey Burke of Seguin at (708) 222-2288. Seguin Services is a charitable not-for-profit agency serving metropolitan Chicago, always striving to integrate, enrich, and empower people with disabilities. Seguin lives its mission of “supporting adults and children with disabilities and other special needs, enabling them to be productive, valued members of society.” Seguin creates job opportunities and housing options that lead to greater independence, so that men and women with developmental disabilities can live, work, and socialize as their neighbors do. In addition, Seguin provides safe and loving homes for children who have disabilities and serious medical or emotional conditions.
