Brookfield Recreation is now accepting applications for the 2012 Battle of the Bands sponsored by the Village of Brookfield and A Sound Education, which takes place on Sunday, May 20, 2012 from noon to 6 p.m. Bands compete for a chance to move on to the regional semi-finals as well as a demo recording at VMR Studios, a performance opportunity at the Brookfield Independence Day Celebration, and a chance to play at Brookfield Zoo. If you are interested in competing, you can pick up an application at the Recreation Department office, A Sound Education or download a copy from A Sound Education. Application deadline is March 30th. |

Escape cabin fever by joining the Brookfield Recreational Department (BRD) in the lower level of the Village Hall for movie night. Movies begin promptly at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge or no pre-registration required. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase or BRD can arrange to have food delivered from local restaurants. Menus for participating restaurants are available at the movie. |

 Brookfield police charged Kyle E. Gibson, 23, of 3515 Blanchan Avenue with five counts of burglary to a motor vehicle after victim identifies him.
A resident in the 3600 block of Grand Boulevard called police after she chased a man, in a black trench coat, from inside her parked car. |

The Brookfield Jazz Society meets every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (presentations start at 7:15 p.m. and live music starts at 7:30 p.m.) in the Cottage (function room) at Irish Times Bar and Restaurant, 8869 Burlington Avenue, Brookfield, IL (located across the street from the Brookfield Metra railway station on Prairie Avenue). The meetings are open to anyone who enjoys jazz and blues music -Dixieland, Ragtime, Stride, New Orleans, Swing, Big Band, Bebop, Hard Bop, Latin, and Fusion. They have jazz presentations, jazz movie nights, and free and easy nights. Once or twice a month they hold live jazz events. |
