Working in concert with village and school officials and local law enforcement to support and enhance public safety in the area, State Representatives Michael Zalewski and Lisa Hernandez and State Senator Steve Landek met with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to ask the department to install left turn signals on eastbound Ridgewood Road and westbound Forest Avenue at First Avenue.

Receptive to the safety concerns created by the problematic and potentially dangerous traffic congestion in front of the high school, IDOT moved forward and installed the left turn signals, which became operational on February 15th.

According to IDOT this is just a preliminary step in anticipated upgrades to the intersection, which will include designated right-turn-only lanes to be installed by 2015.
